Solar Battery Charger Circuit With PCB

Solar Battery Charger
Circuit With PCB

The following post is about solar
battery charger that uses to charge
the Acid or Ni-Cd Batteries from solar
energy. The main purpose of solar
battery charger is to convert the solar
energy into electrical energy and
charge the battery. The project has
full feature of voltage and current
regulation and it automatic cuts off
the voltage if over voltage has
occurred.
The circuit has a 12 V solar panel that
provides voltage to the batteries.
LM317 is a variable voltage regulator
that is used to adjust the output
voltage and gives to the batteries.
Solar panel is consists of two batteries
of 1.2v.

A variable resistance is placed
between LM317 middle pin and the
ground to adjust or vary the output
voltage that is given to the batteries to
charge them. Charging current is
restricted by the help of resistor R3
and D2 prevents discharging the
current from the battery. The
transistor BC548 and a zener diode is
used to cutoff the voltage if the
battery has fully charged. The
transistor remains in off condition
when the battery is being charged.
When the battery voltage reaches at
6.8 v then the zener diode turns on
and starts conducting, so due to this
the transistor switches ON and makes
the output pin of LM317 to ground
and stop charging the battery.
Features of Solar Battery
Charger:
1. Charges batteries in the absence of
electricity and save electricity.
2. Automatic cuts off the voltage if the
battery has been fully charged.
3. Very cheap and simplest circuit of
Solar battery Charger.
